What are virtual currencies for? How can we implement them succesfully?

A virtual currency or virtual money has been defined a type of unregulated, digital money, which is issued and usually controlled by its developers, and used and accepted among the members of a specific virtual community.

The aim of our research on virtual currencies is introduce it in communities with the objective to improve the efficiency. One example about that is the usage of citations as virtual currencies in the domain of scientific papers instead of peer-review, the main bottleneck of the publishing process: Citation auctions , Citation autctions II , Towards symbiosis between the scientific comunity and Internet.
